My Story

Nathan's Love of Wheelchair Racing

I have been a wheelchair racer for 6 years.

In 2007, I won the Avche Pinkard Rookie of the Year Award (Wheelchair Race Series) and was named BC Athlete with a Disability of the Year (BC Atheltics).  I have trained with his coach James Hustvedt since 2007 and together we are looking forward to another exciting year.

I race for the BC Wheelchair Sports Association who belongs to the Wheelchair Race Series.

History

22 years ago Nathan and his twin brother Brenndon were born 3 months premature weighing less than 3lbs each. Nathan was diagnosed at only 3 days old with spastic deplegia cerebral palsy. He has encountered many challenges including 19 shunt revisions, each one life threatening. Nathan has always been the quieter more hesitant of the boys until he was targeted as a potential Paralympic athlete.

Suddenly “Anything is Possible”. He trains 5-6 times per week both inside and outside on the track and is a 2nd year business student at BCIT in Burnaby.
